The strongest predictor of reading success and readiness is letter identification. In order to have true fluency with letter identification, students must be able to identify and discriminate among the 26 letters in the English language. This includes recognizing letters out of context and out of order. The goal of this activity is to teach and recognize the subtle differences among the letter shapes and discriminate between similar letters so it is automatic to the future reader. Practice makes perfect, and in this case automatic!
Prerequisites for letter identification include visual discrimination of shapes, lines and symbols. This letter identification activity allows children to analyze each letter by its building blocks. Kids construct letters by matching its horizontal, vertical and diagonal line segments in addition to the arcs that make up the letters. They also need to concentrate on the shapes positions and sizes to one another. Now they can use these resources to build letters and numbers!
This busy bag uses plastic blocks that snap together and pattern cards to teach children how to create the letters of the alphabet and numbers! This fun educational toy is for practicing letter recognition which is the foundation for pre-writing. Build a letter AND build numbers.
The blocks come in 6 primary colors. You can select a solid color (red, orange, yellow, green, blue or purple) If you have a preference you can let me and I will do my best to accommodate.
Busy bags are little self-contained educational activities that are easy to pack or pull out in an emergency. You can pop them in your diaper bag and pull them out when going out to eat, when there is a delay, or when you need a few uninterrupted minutes. Just pull out the activity and let your kids have fun.
